How Do You Clean and Organize a Personal Computer?

If you haven’t cleaned your computer for months, it’s time for you to stand up from the couch and start moving. Cleaning your computer as regularly will help keep it functioning well for many years. It will also help keep your computer in excellent condition physically and aesthetically. Cleaning your computer can be fun and easy. All you need to do is follow these steps.


  1. First Things First: De-clutter! Clean Your Desktop!


If your desktop is cluttered with shortcuts, this is not a good sign. Normally, what your desktop looks like somehow indicates the condition of your computer. So, it is important to get rid of all your desktop clutter. Remove old documents and useless programs. Delete them from the desktop. If you do not want to delete them, simply store them somewhere else. After de-cluttering your desktop, find time to also remove all files from the Recycle Bin. If you do this, your computer will have more storage space.


  1. Step Number Two is to Remove or Delete All Old and Useless Documents or Files


If you work on your computer on a daily basis, chances are you have amassed thousands of documents and files that you keep on your computer. Every time you finish a document, you save it. Every time you download a photo, you save it. This is why files keep “piling up” on your computer. You need to de-clutter again and delete all old files. Before doing so, however, make sure that you filter out the files. Try to separate the old and useless files with the new ones or those that are still of relevance. If you have statements of accounts, records, graphs, and other such things, delete them. Make sure you do not delete files that have sentimental value are identified with specific filenames, so you don’t mistakenly delete them.


  1. Delete Programs You Don’t Use


Finally, to complete your cleaning process, find all the programs that you do not use and delete them. All that you need to do is navigate to the Control Panel, click on Add or Remove Programs and choose the programs you do not use anymore.
